Must-Do Events in the Heart of Georgian Bay

     Summer is in full swing here in the Heart of Georgian Bay which means there is an amazing lineup of festivals and events that you will want to be a part of. Everyone knows about Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival, named one of Canada's Best Summer Food and Drink Festivals and one of Festivals & Events Ontario's Top 100 Events. But this giant event has come and gone for this year, but don't fret, there is so much more to see and do before the end of the summer. With amazing events, shows and festivals going on almost every weekend you will never be bored in the Heart of Georgian Bay!

All Things Canadian Festival 
Friday, July 26 - Saturday, July 27 at Memorial Park in Penetanguishene 

      This two-day outdoor festival celebrates francophone, anglophone and Indigenous history and culture that has made us who we are as Canadians. This is a special year for the Town of Penetanguishene as they are  celebrating the completion of the construction work on Main Street by having a street party! This year, the festival will take place in Memorial Park and on the Main Street between Shanahan and Poyntz streets. So come on out and celebrate what it means to be Canadian and the grand opening of the Main Street of Penetanguishene! Find more information on this amazing event here.

Pirates of the Bay
Saturday, August 3 at Discovery Harbour 

     ARR matey! This swashbucklin’ event will sure have you singing a pirate tune! Historic Discovery Harbour will be completely transformed into a Pirate’s Lair for one day and one day only. So get ready to walk the plank and join the pirate crew! Make sure you are on the lookout for the HMS Badger and the Historic Military Establishments of Upper Canada because they will be firing off the candy cannon. 


Tall Ships Challenge Ontario & Battle of Georgian Bay Grand Encampment
Wednesday, August 7 - Sunday, August 11

     The Tall Ships Challenge is back this year and is taking over the whole region! Come down to the Midland Town Docks to tour four tall ships and the Royal Canadian Navy vessel Oriole. The Battle of Georgian Bay Grand Encampment is a part of the big weekend, where over 800 re-enactors from all over North American will take over Discovery Harbour and reenact Ware of 1812 battles throughout the region. The battle begins on Wednesday, August 7th with the assault on the Village of Victoria Harbour. It then heads to Balm Beach for Thursday, August 8th, then Port McNicoll on Friday, August 9th, and a whole lineup of events on Saturday in Penetanguishene and at Discovery Harbour. Tugfest Georgian Bay
Friday, August 16 - Saturday, August 17 at the Midland Town Docks

     Back again for another year is the matchless family experience Tugfest! Watch these historical and distinctive boats in action as they race, put on demonstrations and of course the fabulous Tug Push, pitting tug boats against one another! There will also be a beautiful parade of lights so you will definitely want to head down to check out this great event! Read up about this event here!


Night at the Museum: Escape Room Challenge
Friday, August 16 at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives

     Imagine this… walking around the original general store of Penetanguishene, at night time, only lit by lantern, and then add in the escape challenge! Will you be able to solve the mystery lost in our history? Using clues from the exhibits you will try to help your team in figuring out the puzzle before the time runs out! Tickets for this spooky and challenging event are available at the museum or online here.

Tiny Farm Crawl
Friday, August 16 at 5 farms in the Township of Tiny 

     Take this amazing opportunity to get the inside scoop on all things farming on the Tiny Farm Crawl! Tour 5 local farms to see how they function and produce foods that we eat! Your day also includes transportation and a delicious lunch catered by Mad Cravings. Seats are limited, so register for this amazing day here.
