     Katie here. As my second summer as the student, here at the Heart of Georgian Bay, is coming to a close, I decided to reflect on the amazing time I had. I'm on the left in the picture above. Working for North Simcoe Tourism has taught me so much about this beautiful region that I didn’t know, even though I've lived here my whole life! I have come to realize that this area and the four municipalities that make it up are astounding! I like to refer to it as a ‘hidden gem’ because it is a little bit off the beaten path, but once you get here, you will never want to leave. Recapping my summer will give you a little insight into what I mean.

     We had the amazing opportunity to travel to Georgian Bay Islands National Park recently, and this really is a hidden gem in the Heart of Georgian Bay. This park is one of the few places in Canada that is a National Park and a National Historic Site. So, not only are you able to explore the beautiful grounds of the park, but you can also learn about the history of these islands. On our day adventure we were able to tour most of the main island, which is Beausoleil Island, and we saw a ton! Come and find out about our amazing outdoor adventure.

A Jam Packed Day in the Heart of Georgian Bay!

     Our first familiarization tour of 2019 featured many stops throughout the Townships of Tay & Tiny, and the Town of Midland. Our jam packed day began at about 9am when we all piled on the bus, and the fun did not stop until all of our participants stepped off the bus for the final time at the end of the day! The day ran smoothly without a hitch, largely in part due to our amazing guests on the tour and wonderful attractions hosting us! This two and a half hour sightseeing cruise is a must do if you are interested in seeing what the huge hype about Georgian Bay is. A day filled with rich culture is really the only way I can describe this amazing event without selling it short. June 21st is National Indigenous People’s Day and we headed to Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons to take part in the festivities. It was a spectacular day where I learned and experienced a ton of the First Nations culture. I’m going to try my best to walk you through my amazing time at this celebration, but nothing beats witnessing it for yourself.

We Hopped Aboard the SS Keewatin and Witnessed the Luxury!

The SS Keewatin’s story begins in 1907, and we were lucky to travel back in time and take a tour of this magnificent ship. Using the word magnificent seems like an understatement while reminiscing on our historical tour. I learned so much more than I could have ever imagined about her on a 90-minute Combination Tour. From funny anecdotes to the most haunted areas of the ship, our tour guide did not disappoint and I would definitely say this tour a must see during your next visit in the Heart of Georgian Bay!

Heart of GBay FAM Tour!

The Heart of Georgian Bay’s Familiarization Tour is a full-day tour where we take students and front-line staff from municipal information centres, restaurants, attractions and more, put them on a bus and take them to experience some of the cool things you can see and do, right here in the Heart of Georgian Bay! This means ushering 37 people on and off a bus, to 12 different local attractions so that they can share and recomment their experiences with visitors.

Well people, the big day was finally here, and boy was it ever worth the anticipation and build up! Being a first-time attendee at Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival, I must admit I was a little nervous and very excited! This event brings in people from all over the privince and is a great weekend put on by the Town of Midland! Going into Saturday I didn’t know what to expect other than a ton of people waiting to get their hands on some delicious treats! But this was only one portion of the day!
